Leila and Josh fell in love at Arizona State University back in 2018, after meeting in a very memorable way. Naturally, due to the unique nature of their love story, they wanted their modern wedding day to reflect the quirky parts of their relationship. When we first began talking with Leila and Josh it was clear that they were just so excited to be getting married! We were of course extremely interested in hearing all about their “how we met” story, and Josh was kind enough to share his memory of that day with us.

How They Met
“Leila and I were next-door neighbors at Arizona State University back in 2018. One evening her door got jammed in the open position, and she made quite a ruckus in the hallway trying to fix it (slam it closed!). I went into the hallway to see what was going on. After making sure there wasn’t a robbery in progress, we got to chatting. Leila had to ask me for my number twice because I was pretty oblivious to her obvious flirting, but I eventually got the message.”
How a-door-able is that!? (pun intended) The two have been inseparable ever since and we are seriously so lucky to have been a part of their wedding day. Leila and Josh’s adore spending time together and enjoying the little things life has to offer like traveling, exploring new places, and taking long walks together. Bringing bits and pieces of our client’s love stories into their custom wedding day decor is one of our absolute favorite parts of our jobs and we cannot wait to show you what we came up with for these two.

When we began diving into the details of the day with Kris from Konsider It Done, Leila and Josh made it clear that they wanted their wedding design to be fun, unique, and colorful. They were very open-minded and playful which made designing their decor extremely easy and fun for us! Leila and Josh were totally down for any suggestions we had and had the best time tossing ideas back and forth with us.
To make designing their wedding day even better, neither Leila nor Josh had ever been to a wedding before! This meant everything was new to them. They had no expectations of what their wedding “should be” and were totally true to themselves. Leila and Josh went into their wedding planning with one thing on their mind: getting married!
Love Is An Open Door
After getting to know Leila and Josh, we really wanted to find a way to connect their iconic love story to their wedding day decor. After lots of brainstorming, we eventually came up with a brilliant idea for their escort display. Inspired by the story of how they met we knew we had to find a unique way to incorporate doors into the statement-making escort display. We are SO happy with how it turned out!

At first glance, this large escort display looks like a simple white wall but when you approach the display you’ll notice functional doors. Behind each door was a colorful panel featuring each guest’s name and the table they were seated at. Not only was this escort display a show-stopper, but it also was a fantastic icebreaker for guests who didn’t know the story behind how Leila and Josh met. The “love is an open door” title was not only a play on words but a nice nod to their recent magical trip to Disney and the infamous song from Frozen!
After a romantic ceremony, guests proceeded to the outdoor reception that took place on the terrace of Mountain Shadow Resort. Guests dined under beautiful string lights and were greeted by an unreal view of Camelback Mountain. We designed monochromatic cactus table numbers and are honestly so in love with how they turned out! They added the most adorable Arizona-western flare to this otherwise playful and modern wedding.
We know Leila and Josh will remember their wedding day fondly for the rest of their lives. We hope they spend many more years adventuring together, exploring all the beauty the outdoors have to offer and taking romantic walks reminiscing on their beautiful day!

[…] These two have spent years together making memories, one of their favorites being a trip they took to Disneyland. For their custom build, we were able to combine their ‘How We Met’ story with one of their favorite memories together through a “Love is an Open Door” seating display – inspired by Disney’s Frozen and that first night in the hallway. It was a fantastic conversation starter for guests and everyone loved the meaning behind the “jammed” shut door on either side! Check out more of their day on our blog! […]
