How To Maximize Your Budget For Wedding Displays

Created by Ali Coşkunfrom the Noun Project

Have you experienced the price shock of wedding planning yet? Trust us, it is real! Especially if you aren’t expecting it. No matter how much planning and preparation you do, there can be unexpected costs associated with getting married, resulting in a costly event. As professionals in the wedding and event industry, we are motivated to always make our pricing transparent with our clients and hopefully take away a bit of the stress! In today’s blog, we are going to share with you some of our knowledge on how you can optimize your wedding budget for signs and displays.

Having open conversations with our couples has taught us a lot, and we have learned that many of our couples come to us after spending hours scouring the internet looking for ways to save. We know that the desire to invest in custom wedding decor is high, and lucky for you we have learned a LOT about wedding budgets over the years as wedding professionals. We’re looking forward to sharing our tricks with you!

Step 1: Determining Your Wedding Budget For Custom Signage and Displays

This is wedding planning 101. Deciding your wedding budget (or at least having a range in mind) is the key to a smooth wedding planning process. We want you to be comfortable with what you’re spending! Trust us, no wedding vendor wants to rip you off, we want your wedding day to be the best day ever! But, that does come with some tricky conversations in the beginning. Once you have your all-in budget set it’s time to break that number down into smaller segments. What amount are you comfortable setting aside for catering? A wedding planner? Rentals and flowers? And of course, what is that dollar amount you’re willing to invest on custom wedding signage and displays?

When you meet with us, make sure you have your whole wedding budget outlined so that we can openly discuss what we can create for you within your price range. We want to figure out which moments in your wedding are most important to you and where you envision custom decor piece(s). Whether it’s your escort display or a ceremony backdrop we want you to tell us what you see yourself investing that portion of your budget on!

Step 2: Ask Questions and Trust Your Vendors

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Especially when working with wedding vendors who are experienced and have seen it all! Odds are we know what we’re talking about, haha! Hiring a vendor means you’re putting your trust in them, so allow us to give you our thoughts and suggestions. Your wedding day is meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for you and your family, and our goal is to make it as positive and memorable as possible. Questions are inevitable — especially when this is an event that most individuals only plan and experience once! So, go ahead and load us up with ALL your questions, we have the answers.

The Details Duo was created to bring beautiful custom wedding displays to life and we want to make sure your wedding dreams are properly executed! So, when it’s time to design your custom signage, allow us to make recommendations on what wedding signs and backdrops are most important to a wedding day.

If you’re working with a tighter budget we may recommend steering clear of small signage that isn’t necessarily crucial to the functionality of your event. For example, certain couples have quotes that they want to incorporate into their wedding day. Instead of customizing a sign with a quote on it, it may make more sense for your wedding and budget to put that money towards a welcome sign or a bar sign! We want you to get the most out of your budget but at the end of the day, it is up to YOU to decide where you spend your money and where you save it.

Step 3: Invest In Larger Displays and DIY The Rest!

If you can’t tell, we are big fans of large escort and welcome displays — it’s kind of what we’re known for! So, we highly recommend that if you’re planning on seeking the help of a professional for any of your custom displays you have them create a grand display piece for you. Although we would LOVE to create a full lineup of displays and signage for you, we know that many couples don’t have the budget to invest in multiple large scale displays (along with on-site installation) throughout their event. So, we recommend for your smaller signs (bar signage, menus, guest books, etc) that you DIY them yourself! Not only is this a quick way to save a little money but it can also be a fun bonding moment for you and your partner. Smaller signs are a lot easier to create than large displays, plus, if you happen to mess up a little it’s often easier to fix or not as noticeable!

Large display pieces are a ton of fun but can also be a big challenge if you don’t have the tools and materials to execute the build properly. The Details Duo is for couples who want these custom builds without lifting a finger, but we also know that this isn’t the case for every couple. If you’re on more of a DIY wedding budget that is what Details Depot is for! By creating Details Depot we have taken away the hard part and provided a service for our couples who don’t necessarily want or need a full-service custom build. Through Details Depot, you can purchase high-quality pre-cut and primed materials to bring your own wedding displays to life. Guests will be shocked when you tell them you did it yourself, and only you will know just how easy it was to stick to your budget!

Step 4: Repurposing and Flipping Displays and Signage

You’ve allocated your budget, created different designs and executed the builds. Now, it’s time to put them on display! Something we have seen many creative couples do is repurpose certain signs for different areas of the wedding day. This is an amazing way to make the most of your budget and materials. If you’re using a welcome sign with your names and wedding date consider incorporating it into your reception design after guests have arrived for an added touch. Or, utilize your larger display as an escort display during cocktail hour and a dessert display at your reception! Having a wedding to remember includes good food, drinks, and memorable moments. Invite your guests to make memories through interactive experiences such as a photo booth or unique favor display! Trust us, your guests will be talking for MONTHS about how amazing your custom decor was.
