At first glance, Barlas and Nora’s wedding at Royal Palms Resort was your typical flower and love-filled day; a romantic and traditional ceremony at a beautiful venue. However, the best was yet to come. Just when guests thought the dinner reception was where the night ended, there was more! But, we’ll get to that a little later!
Based on this couple’s ideas, style, and wedding vision, we knew that they were going to be dream clients! Barlas and Nora wanted to level up the entire guest experience and make it something no one would forget. Their ceremony and reception were held at the Royal Palms Resort — a Spanish-inspired, charming, and historic location that provided the perfect canvas for their wedding day.
When it came to the details, we had our hands full in the best way!
We created their seating chart display and table numbers with unique details that added to the vintage vibe of the dinner reception and slightly hinted at the surprise that was yet to come. Barlas and Nora really stepped things up for their wedding at Royal Palms Resort by bringing in an acrobat who was pouring champagne from a hoop!
So, what was this big reveal we keep hinting at? Barlas and Nora wanted to surprise their guests after dinner with a speakeasy! That’s right, a good old-fashioned hidden speakeasy where the guests could enjoy drinking and dancing. Let’s dive into what exactly this speakeasy meant for us! For starters, we had to build it from scratch, straight from the ground up. Even though it was our most challenging build to date and we only had ONE day to install (talk about a time crunch!) we thoroughly enjoyed putting our time and attention to detail into this project. Here is a behind the scenes look of the wall construction!
It was important to us that it had a seamless look so that it really blended in and looked just like a hidden speakeasy entrance.
We textured and painted the temporary walls so that they matched the resort’s interior and even added some elements such as art in ornate frames and a side table to make it all blend together. The fun part was figuring out how guests would enter the “secret” speakeasy. Well, in order to open the secret door guests had to pull a sconce and the small door automatically opened, (we set it on a timer so the door also closed automatically which made it seem even more private and exclusive!) The interior of the speakeasy was so much fun as well. They had portraits of their dogs dressed in Victorian attire displayed on the hidden door, and there was a fun little library with a fireplace, lounge furniture, and a bar. The mood was set SO well, it really gave off a nice laid-back vibe which was perfect for the end of the night.
When couples aim for the stars we are ready to help them make it happen. Bringing Barlas and Nora’s speakeasy wedding surprise to life was a challenge but one we will be so proud of for many years to come!
