2022 was the year of innovative builds inspired by love stories that our amazing couples share with one another. January through December was full of creativity, and we are so thankful to the clients who trusted us to elevate their special day through custom wedding displays! Though we are already knee-deep in projects for 2023 (hello Waste Management Open and Super Bowl LVII), we wanted to take a moment and do a quick roundup of our favorite 2022 custom wedding displays.
In addition to creating beautiful custom decor for our clients, we also aim to inspire at The Details Duo. Creating memorable and personalized builds is something we are SO proud of, and we love encouraging our couples to invest in wedding elements that deeply reflect who they are.
Winter Weather Won’t Stop Us
When the weather gets cold, the creativity heats up! January and February kicked off 2022 in style. We began incorporating our couple’s love stories into their builds at the very beginning of the year and it has been such a blast since. We know you’ll love these builds as much as we do!
January 2022
Melissa and Patrick helped us start this year out on the right foot with their epic wedding day at the Clayton House in Arizona. These two are huge music lovers and wanted to find a way to incorporate that passion into a unique seating chart for their big day. With a classic black and white color scheme, we came up with the idea to design an escort display consisting of black acrylic records. Fun fact: guests could also go up and spin them as if they were real vinyls! Ever since it’s debut, this display has been a fan favorite!
The year could not have started out better and this build even resulted in features on many blogs including Wedding Chicks! We are so proud of this display and are so happy that many of you love it as much as we do. To this day, we still get inquiries from brides hoping to recreate something similar for their wedding day.

February 2022
Meagan and Alex’s story had us hooked from the start (pun intended!) and inspired a build that shifted the way we wanted to design custom wedding displays at The Details Duo. Their love story was 15 years in the making and we gave a nod to their engagement story through fishing-inspired details on their seating chart. These two also kept a very modern, elegant black and white design throughout their wedding day and we could not be more thrilled with how everything came together! We were over the moon to find their beautiful wedding featured on Mumu Weddings and Bridal Musings. Be sure to check out more details on the blog we wrote about Meagan and Alex’s special day!

Spring Into Wedding Season With Us
Wedding season kicked off strong once March arrived, and production was in full swing! Although we were insanely busy with builds and design meetings it was worth it. Seeing the end result of these designs and the positive reactions our couples had to their custom wedding displays is truly what keeps us going.
March 2022
In March, we were fortunate to be a part of so many incredible wedding days so it was challenging to pick just three stand-out wedding builds to showcase, but here goes…
First up was Lee Ann and Greg. What we loved most about their day was collaborating with Kelsey from Jane in the Woods, who was the creative genius behind their design details! One main event was the fact that they wanted to incorporate their special number ‘32’ into their wedding day. This number has come up at significant parts of their relationship time and time again. Ready for this? They had known each other for 32 years before they started casually dating in 2019, Greg asked permission to marry Lee Ann on 03/02, and they were engaged on 5/6/21, which adds up to 32!
Would you believe me if I told you it keeps going? Lee Ann and Greg left L’auberge Sedona after securing it as their wedding venue at 11:32 am. The day before their wedding the sunset was at 6:32 pm, and of course, on their wedding day 3/13/22, they got married at 4:32 pm. These two were also obsessed with the LOVE sculptures and statues seen around town, so we got to incorporate that into their signage, escort display, and table numbers.

Next we have Leila and Josh; these two sweethearts were next-door neighbors at ASU. As fate would have it, they ended up falling in love after Leila’s door jammed in the ‘open’ position. To get her door shut, Leila “made quite a ruckus trying to fix it,” as Josh recalled. The noise prompted him to step out into the hallway and see what was going on (to make sure there wasn’t a robbery in place, of course), and sure enough, they began talking and the rest is history!
These two have spent years together making memories, one of their favorites being a trip they took to Disneyland. For their custom build, we were able to combine their ‘How We Met’ story with one of their favorite memories together through a “Love is an Open Door” seating display – inspired by Disney’s Frozen and that first night in the hallway. It was a fantastic conversation starter for guests and everyone loved the meaning behind the “jammed” shut door on either side! Check out more of their day on our blog!

Is anyone else a huge fan of The Bachelor?! Kristine sure is, and her sweetheart Jordan took things to the next level when he rented out the Bachelor Mansion in Agoura Hills, CA to propose. Of course, Kristine accepted the rose! And it just so happened that Bachelor Mansion is just minutes away from Pepperdine University, where these two first met. To kick off their wedding weekend and offer a nod to their love for The Bachelor, we created a “Will you accept this rosé?” drink display and a “Fantasy Sweets” table. It was so cute and creative!

April 2022
Maddy is a lead planner with Your Jubilee. Whenever a fellow vendor chooses us to be a part of their own wedding day it means A LOT. It truly is one of the greatest honors! Maddy and Thomas chose Mountain Shadows as their wedding venue, due to the significance it has to their family. Thomas’ parents got married at (the old) Mountain Shadows Resort 32 years ago and it’s where Maddy and Thomas got engaged in 2020! We brought the modern vibe they were going for to their resort wedding with custom breeze block pedestals that matched the architecture perfectly. Jesse from Freja Creative also created a breeze block-inspired ‘G’ monogram that was featured throughout their invitations and signage.

Combine glam with minimalism, and you get Hallie and David. They had the most elegant event and Hallie literally looked like a movie star! Although this build wasn’t love story-driven per se, we really challenged ourselves for this one. Their welcome drink/escort display made it tricky to disguise any fasteners, seams and other mechanics due to it being made out of clear acrylic – not to mention it being super fragile to transport. So, we had to assemble most of the display on-site at the venue. Even though this was a big challenge for us we were super happy with the end result! Hallie and David also had the sweetest florist, Allison from Array Design who wrote a blog all about their wedding.

May 2022
Katie and Jayson literally got married on May 1st but their display takes the cake for creativity for the month. Their planner, Kelsey from Jane in the Woods, had such a fantastic idea for their custom wedding displays. Essentially we built a giant acrylic “shadowbox” with open sides, in which Kelsey adorned the inside with large cacti plants. The bride, Katie, also included an accent sign with the saying “at a table in heaven” honoring special loved ones who’ve passed that couldn’t be present at the wedding. She was the first bride of ours to think of incorporating a tribute like this within their seating chart display, and we thought it was SO sweet and clever. This whole display was “simply the best” – Schitt’s Creek reference, anyone?!

Fall In Love With These Iconic Builds
Get your Pinterest boards ready, because these fall weddings were absolutely everything! Designing around the natural beauty of autumn is always so much fun, there is something so magical about that rich golden hour light that just hits differently.
September 2022
Being frequent travelers, Jack and Brad wanted to incorporate a piece of that passion into their wedding day. They have been to 20+ countries together – so cool! In order to get inspired for their display we asked them what their favorite part of the airport was. They said they love the “big departures board” and grabbing a drink together at the bar. It was obvious, we had to find a way to incorporate both into an escort display/photo-op. Although the airplane shooters were empty, guests helped themselves to some fantastic drinks from the bar and enjoyed taking photos in front of the display all night long!

Make way for one of the BIGGEST welcome signs we’ve ever done! Coming in at a whopping 10’ wide, Hannah and Samuel absolutely made a statement. This rainbow moment was such a dream consisting of 7 different layers, each a different color. This giant welcome sign totally set the stage for guests’ arrival to an iconic wedding weekend.

October 2022
Okay, this next love story-driven build from our list of favorite custom wedding displays in 2022 was just so flat-out COOL. Think National Parks meets Wes Anderson vibes… that’s Alex and Joel. It was cute and campy in all the best ways! We collaborated with Jesse from Freja Creative to create a vintage-inspired camp sign to welcome guests and a beautiful seating chart featuring pine trees and the quote “follow our adventure and journey to your seat.” We LOVED how stunning the mustard and deep forest green looked with the natural woods and neutral colors! To keep the camp theme going, the team added sweet details for the reception, including name plates at each seat delicately placed on top of clipboard menus.

Robbie is a HUGE Steelers fan, as his dad’s side of the family is from Pittsburgh. In their house, Sundays revolve 100% around football season! If you know anything about the Steelers you may be familiar with the Terrible Towels the fans wave at their games. To pay homage to Robbie’s love for the Steelers we had custom wedding towels made that guests could wave during the grand entrance. These acted as escort cards and favors for the night, neatly packaged in clear acrylic boxes on the wall! The seating chart title was a nod to the famous ‘Immaculate Reception‘ play from 1972 which is known as one of the greatest plays in NFL history. And of course, to accent the display we added the iconic Steelers logo stars.

November 2022
“What are some of your favorite things to do together?” was one of the questions listed on our couples questionnaire for Kelsey and Kyle. They responded with “spending our Fridays ordering pasta, drinking red wine, and following it up with dancing in the kitchen.” Both us and Kris from Konsider It Done are big LANY fans. LANY has a song called “Dancing In The Kitchen” and once Kris introduced it to Kelsey and Kyle, they fell in love with it! So, for their custom decor, we knew we had to come up with a dope kitchen build-out and have the song playing on repeat. Honestly, after seeing that display set up we took a moment and thought to ourselves “I love you (the display) so bad!!” (Had to throw in another iconic LANY reference)
To make it feel like home, Kelsey and Kyle added photos of family members who passed and couldn’t be at the wedding. Kris brought cookbooks and a kitchen-aid mixer to dress it up more, and for the “title” we added a song lyric on a piece of acrylic, to be removed later on and you guessed it – hung in their kitchen back home. Fun fact: the seating chart was printed in the windowpane so guests had to actually walk up on the checkered floor platform and really immerse themselves in the build which made the experience THAT. MUCH. BETTER.
It was the perfect display for Kelsey and Kyle and we are seriously in love with how it turned out. (@LANY you should totally hire us to build props for your next music video 😉). Both us and Kris from KID created reels on this masterpiece because, I mean, how could we not?!

Kara and Michael are two dentists and met at a dental drinking event called “Pontics & Politics” so for their display we decided to go all-out and create a typical dentist “counter” with mirrors, a functioning sink and personalized toothbrushes which functioned as escort cards for guests! Honestly, this was one of the most interactive and unique custom wedding displays we’ve built, and it tied into Kara and Michael’s love story perfectly.

Celebrating the End of The Year in Style
As the year came to a close and we began winding down for the holidays, we had one more build on the agenda. Although it wasn’t a wedding, we still had the best time creating a beautiful display for such an iconic event.
December 2022
We had the privilege of partnering with the infamous TPD Design House and Imoni Events for the Engage! Summit that took place at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain in Tucson. It was such an incredible experience – we learned so much, met so many new faces and made new connections! We had the best time fabricating the main stage backdrop for days 1 and 2 of the event and finishing up the year with this installation was absolutely perfect and one were are super duper proud of.
